Reynoldsburg Beginning Band
The band program in Reynoldsburg is one of the district's most unique and exciting experiences available to students. Beginning band instruction, which begins in 6th grade, provides students with a great opportunity to grow as musicians and scholars both inside and outside of the classroom. This webpage provides everything you need to know about our program, what instruments your students can play, and how to register for 6th Grade Band in the fall. To register for band, just click the "Register For Band Here!" button in the "How Do I Register?" section of this page. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the band directors at the information provided at the bottom of the page!
What should I play?
Picking an instrument is a very fun and exciting part of a beginning musician's journey. It is very important for students to consider their options and choose an instrument that best fits them. Your student has already, or will soon, be a part of an instrument fitting. Trained music professionals will be present at the fitting to help the students try instruments and to help them find their best instrument match. This will help ensure your students will have fun and be successful as musicians for years to come!

When will band start?
Beginning band will start in the fall. On the first day of school, students will start to learn the basics of music reading, proper posture, and breathing techniques to set them up to start playing. Students will receive their instruments around the 2nd weekend of school (if they are renting one) at our annual kick-off celebration at the Livingston Campus with the Reynoldsburg High School Marching Pride!
At each school, band takes place during 45-minute classes that meet 5 times per week. Band is part of the Unified Arts selections. Students at all buildings can choose 2 unified arts classes, so even with their participation in band, they can still have the opportunity to take other unified arts classes, such as art, physical education, foreign languages, computer science, etc.

Can I do band and sports?
YES! Band meets during the school day, so it does not conflict with after-school practices or activities. We have numerous band students that participate in multiple activities all the way through high school!
Why band?
- It’s Fun! Over 200 sixth graders joined band this year and the band program continues to grow year after year! Band students learn how to play an instrument together and get to participate in exciting events, like our concerts and the 6th Grade Ice Cream Social. As the students progress through our middle school programs, there are even more fun events and performances, like our special trips to perform at Cedar Point and Kings Island!
- It teaches teamwork! Band teaches commitment to teamwork, discipline and dedication, and helps form strong bonds between the students! From day one, band members learn to play as part of a larger group. They grow together, as musicians and friends, over years of practice, by listening to each others' parts and figuring out how they each contribute to the overall success of the ensemble. They form lasting relationships with their fellow band members, all while developing their memorization skills and becoming masters on their instruments!
- It teaches dedication and determination! Learning an instrument is like learning to ride a bike. At first, it may be challenging, but through continued practice and determination, it becomes a fun and exhilarating experience! Students will get to see the results of their hard work firsthand as they gain mastery of their instruments and share their musical skills with many audiences. They learn to overcome obstacles and hurdles both individually and as part of a team, a very important skill to have as they grow in their personal and professional lives!
