8th Grade Band Night: 2023
This year is an exciting year for band students as we begin the transition from junior high band to high school band. Eighth grade students begin to perform publicly outside of the traditional concerts and have opportunities to play alongside the high school students. The first of these performances is on Friday, October 6th at the Reynoldsburg Varsity Football game. During the pre-game, 8th grade students will perform with the high school marching band under the “Friday night” lights at the start of the game. They will then be able to perform with the marching band in the stands through the first half to get a feel for the high school experience. During halftime, they will be able to watch up close the competition show performance of both Reynoldsburg and the Visiting Band. This is a required performance for all 8th grade students as part of their band grade for the year (please see handbook for details.) Here is the schedule for the evening:
5:00pm 8th Grade students arrive at Livingston Practice Field behind the Field house to rehearse with the marching band (come in the East entrance closest to Blacklick Park and drive all the way back)
5:45pm 8th Grade students are treated to pizza and refreshments courtesy of the Reynoldsburg Band Boosters
6:30pm 8th Grade students rejoin marching band for set-up of performance
6:45pm Pre-game performance with the Reynoldsburg Raider Marching Pride!
7:00pm Kick-off GO RAIDERS!! 8th grade students join marching band in stands to cheer on the team and play stand tunes.
8:15pm 8th Grade students dismissed (approximate based on pace of game)
Here are a couple of commonly asked questions:
What do the students wear? Students should wear black pants and any “Raider Wear” that they have. This can include the band t-shirt, team hoodies or sweatshirts, or any reward items students have from their school. If your student doesn't own any Raider Wear, then any school-appropriate top that is purple, gold, or black will do.
Do students have to pay for admission to the game? No. Students are admitted for free as our guests as long as they come in the gate with us for the performance. Any parents or family that are attending the game must pay admission according to Reynoldsburg policy.
Is it mandatory for my student to attend? Yes. This is a scheduled, graded performance like any of our concerts. We have been working hard in preparation for our performance and we want to make sure each student gets an opportunity to experience the exhilaration of the big stage. If a student is absent because of a pre-excused reason with the director, they will need to complete a make-up assignment for the grade. Unexcused absences will result in a grade of “0” according to handbook policy.
What if my student wants to stay for the entire game? Students may remain at the game with a parent or guardian. Students who are not remaining at the game will be dismissed outside of door #13 (on East side of building) at the dismissal time. Students will be unable to be released at the game without a parent or guardian present to pick them up from the directors.
If you have any questions or concerns leading up to the game, please contact director Elizabeth Porter (WRJH) at [email protected] or Scott Tennant (SMBR) at [email protected].
8th grade students love this event every year, and we look forward to having them as our guests on Friday, October 6th!
See you then!
